How To Start A New Interest Group

Interest groups are an integral part of our u3a and we are delighted when someone wants to start a new group.

If you’ve not run a group before, it can be a daunting task. But help is at hand.

If you have have an idea for a possible group,  you need to contact our Group co-ordinator by clicking here Group Co-ordinator

Then you’ll need to prepare a write up for the newsletter. You’ll need to include your idea for the group and ask interested members to contact you. You’ll need to provide a telephone number, email address or both. You may want to set up a dedicated email for this using either gmail or outlook rather than using your personal email. (Please remember that any personal contact information is redacted from the newsletter that we put on the website).

Once you have established how many members are interested, select a venue in which to hold your inaugural get together. The monthly meeting may not be appropriate unless a majority of those members who have expressed an interest attend.

At the inaugural meeting, agree the objectives of the group, as well as time and place for your group to meet. A list is available Venue List with details of venues currently used by groups.

Once your group is established, inform the Webmaster and the Group Co-Ordinator. The website will be updated and the group co-ordinator will arrange for an information sheet to be created that can be put out at the monthly meetings.

Please keep the Group co-ordinator informed at every stage. They are there to help you!
